During a brief visit to the city council and municipality of Berlin, I inquired about the population size and the amount of fees collected, comparing it with what is collected in Iran. It turned out that the per capita charges paid by the people of Berlin were several times higher than those in Iran.<\/p><p>After that, we went for lunch in East Berlin, which was quite challenging as it required permission and coordination with the police. There, I was struck by the sight of more than thirty people queued up at a butcher&#8217;s shop to buy meat, a scene I had never witnessed before. It was both intriguing and disheartening, indicating economic difficulties and the hardships faced by the people there.<\/p><p>This trip was my first visit to Europe, where I saw most of the major cities and capitals, familiarizing myself with different lifestyles. For instance, in West Berlin, I noticed many people running, which I initially thought was due to some special event. However, our guide explained that this was their routine; they were hurrying to their jobs, a stark contrast to the leisurely pace often seen in our streets. This efficiency and urgency are among the reasons for their progress.<\/p><p>In Berlin, we visited the Philips factory, which was like a city in itself, housing many of its workers and staff in tall buildings. The CEO hosted us warmly, showing us around the factory where workers continued their tasks undisturbed by our presence, focused solely on their work. We toured various sections, including one where workers were constructing a massive turbine for Turkey, so large a Volkswagen could drive around inside it.<\/p><p>Then, the CEO wanted to show us a film about Iran, featuring the installation of old telegraph poles along a long route from India to England, passing through the mountains of Iran. The poles, designed in three segments for easier transportation, were carried by camels and mules from India through Iran to Turkey, and then on to England. This operation was conducted by Philips decades earlier.<\/p><p>The CEO also shared a fascinating story from World War II, highlighting the resilience and ingenuity of Philips workers. After the factory was destroyed by Russian artillery and stripped of its equipment, four surviving workers proposed to restart the factory with whatever was left. Initially skeptical, the CEO was eventually persuaded when they showed him a cutting machine they had built from leftover tank parts. Impressed and hopeful, he reached out to Philips America for support, leading to the reconstruction and revival of the factory.
