The discussion was about the construction of Homayoun Street, and Dr. Homayoun, the then-mayor, had committed to inaugurating the street within three weeks. A water canal ran through that area, and some needed it for irrigation; to prevent them from facing any issues, the mayor had arranged for three shifts of workers who worked around the clock; eventually, at the end of those three weeks, the street was delivered. In 1969, Karaj was recognized as a model city; it had achieved a lot in terms of cleanliness and beauty, so much so that the sidewalks of the city’s four main streets were fully landscaped.
